(NASHVILLE) – State Senator Shane Reeves (R-Murfreesboro) announced today that organizations servicing Senate District 14 are set to receive $878,800 in funds from the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH). The funds will be used to enhance pediatric emergency care and improve mental health support and substance abuse.
The two grant funds are listed here:
• Children’s Emergency Care Alliance – $550,800.00
o This grant is going towards a transformative initiative designed to enhance pediatric emergency care and disaster preparedness for children with medical complexities throughout rural Tennessee.
• Center for Family Development – $328,000.00
o This grant will help improve mental health support and substance abuse prevention in rural areas.
“As a pharmacist, I understand the critical importance of healthcare and the unique challenges that rural communities face when it comes to accessing quality care,” said Reeves. “Rural areas often struggle with limited healthcare resources, fewer providers, and longer travel times to get necessary services. These funds will play a vital role in addressing these challenges by helping to support and improve healthcare for the citizens of District 14 and beyond. By investing in these resources, we can help rural Tennessee residents access the care and services they need, no matter where they live.”
The funding was provided through the Rural Healthcare Resilience Program (HRP). This program is administered by the Department of Health and the investments will go towards community driven projects that improve health access for low-income, underserved, and vulnerable populations in rural counties. The process was very competitive with only 23 projects being selected out of 146 applicants.
