Lewisburg, August 3, 2011:  The Lewisburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating an aggravated robbery that occurred on July 27^th, 2011 at approximately 9:20pm at 1400 Titan Way in Lewisburg. 

On Friday the 27^th of July at approximately 9:20pm two men armed with a single chrome plated or stainless steel handgun forced their way into a residence located at 1400 Titan Way, the home of Victor Harris and Mary Kincaid.  The victim’s were home alone when they heard a knock on the front door.  Mary Kincaid opened the front door and the suspects forced their way into the residence.  Once inside the residence the two suspects, described as thin-built white males wearing black and white masks, forced the victims to the floor and demanded $2500 in cash and a laptop computer.  When the victims could not produce the money or computer demanded by the suspects, the suspects took the victim’s wallets, keys, and a purse.  The suspects also entered a bedroom where they removed and took a drawer containing jewelry.   The incident only lasted a few minutes and the suspects left the residence without injuring the victims. 

Lewisburg Police Officers Amanda Newcomb and Sergeant Chris Sawyers responded to the scene at approximately 9:30pm.  On scene the officers ensured the area was secure and made the initial report.  Detective Sergeant David Henley, Detective Scott Braden, and Detective James Johnson responded a short time later to investigate.  After detectives arrived on scene a search of the area and residence was conducted and several items were collected as evidence.  The description and location of the evidence recovered will not be released at this time.

Since the initial incident occurred detectives have continued to investigate and are actively following leads as they develop.  At this point in the investigation detectives do not believe this was a random act and they believe the victim’s were specifically targeted for robbery.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation last night charged three individuals for their role in the beating death of a Centerville, Tenn. man, and the dismembering of his body after law enforcement discovered his remains earlier this week in a deep ravine off Columbia Avenue in Centerville.

Jessica Dotson, 25, and Brent Frazier, 27, both of Centerville, have been charged with criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse for killing 19-year-old Alphonso Waters. A third individual, 22-year-old Devin Simpson, of Hohenwald, Tenn., was charged with abuse of a corpse and accessory after the fact. Waters was killed on June 11, 2011 inside Dotson and Frazier’s residence located at 324 Columbia Avenue. Yesterday morning, TBI’s Violent Crime Response Team gathered forensic evidence from the crime scene inside the house where it’s also believed Waters was dismembered and put in a freezer until the suspects disposed of his remains in the ravine days later. The motive for the murder appears to be drug related.

All three have been booked into the Hickman County Jail. Dotson and Frazier are being held without bond and Simpson is being held on a $300,000 bond. They are scheduled to be in court on July 12, 2011

Review policy, contact your insurer and check contractors before hiring  

As temperatures climb and we inch toward spring, storms – even tornadoes – can result, bringing damage to our homes. The Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) would like to offer consumers some tips for interacting with insurance companies and selecting contractors: 

• As soon as possible after an event affects your home, contact your insurance carrier or your agent. Locate a copy of your policy and read through it.
• Make a thorough inventory for your adjustor of all of the items missing from or damaged in your home.
• Take pictures, if possible, of all damage – inside and outside, from several angles – to get full documentation before any repairs are made.
• Secure and protect your property against further rain or other damage as much as possible without making permanent repairs, so that the adjustor can see and document the full extent of the damage,
• Keep receipts for expenses of protecting your property from further damage.
• Follow the claims-filing procedure set forth in your policy. If there is a dispute, follow the company’s dispute process.
• Many larger companies have quick-response teams that come into areas of heavy damage to process large numbers of claims as quickly as possible. Others will not send someone out unless you call them. Call your company to be sure.
• Call TDCI with insurance issues at 800-342-4029 or its Consumer Affairs division hotline for non-insurance issues at 800-342-8385.
• Tennessee’s Board for Licensing Contractors has found that unscrupulous, unlicensed contractors like to take advantage of homeowners anxious to rebuild after disasters. Be sure to hire only licensed contractors and check them out with the Board. Consumers may verify a license status by calling 800-544-7693, or may check TDCI’s website for various trades at http://verify.tn.gov.
