COLUMBIA, Tenn.—The next session of the Maury Regional Medical Center (MRMC) Coping with Cancer support group will begin in April. Meetings will be held each Tuesday, April 8 through April 29, from 10-11 a.m. in the MRMC Cancer Center at Columbia Mall.
The mission of the group is to support those who are diagnosed with cancer, as well as their friends and family, and to provide an opportunity to discuss the challenges, frustrations, fears and feelings associated with cancer.
“Cancer takes a toll on those diagnosed, as well as those who care for them. Often, it is helpful to discuss the challenges that come with a diagnosis of cancer and learn how others have coped with them. This group meeting provides an environment of support as well as an exchange of ideas and resources to help ease the burdens being faced,” said Emily McKnight, the counselor who will facilitate the meetings.
McKnight, a life-long resident of Maury County, has a master’s degree in counseling and human development from Vanderbilt University. Her experience includes counseling in the areas of grief, caregiver support and divorce.
